RAW, BLOODY HAM / TWO TRAINS RUNNING / TRAID STAGE 2019

Using a previously made ham mold, I cast our ham from Smooth-On Dragon Skin silicone. I used silicone pigment to tint the base a fleshy color. After releasing from the mold, I used silicone paint tinted to add blood, contrast, and fat marbling. The ham was handled by an actor with stage blood on their hands, and the silicone made it ideal for nightly washing.

COMMERCIAL LOAF OF BREAD / TWO TRAINS RUNNING / TRIAD STAGE 2019

I traced the shape of the loaf into yellow upholstery foam. After cutting away the first layer with scissors, I covered in with Sculpt-or-Coat. Once dry, I used a surform to smooth out the surface, added a second coat of Sculpt-or-Coat, and then painted with mod-podge, burnt sienna, and ochre. I sealed it with amber shellac, and scored slices for dimension. The loaf remains together, but can separate to look as though it were sliced.

oversized challah bread / candide / palm beach opera 2018

I purchased real Challah bread for reference. I sketched the basic shapes into yellow foam, and I trimmed and shaped into 'bread'. I painted with wood glue, burnt umber, and top-coated with poly-gloss seal.

vanilla Cake with Chocolate Icing and strawberries / Candide / Palm Beach Opera 2018

I sketched and cut away a sliced section. I then applied caulk and plaster for the icing texture, painted with acrylic paint, attached faux strawberries, and finished by glazing over with a poly-seal. I also sourced and had baked an identical real cake to insert a consumable piece per show.

individual mince pies / a christmas carol / hangar theatre 2017

I sculpted pie forms and filled with foam stuffing. I painted and sealed them before dressing on serving tray.

CAKE / FIRST DATE / RAUE CENTER FOR THE ARTS 2017

I traced and cut the shapes from the sponges, painted with acrylic and mod podge, made hot glue icing and painted, and then secured to the plate. I left a few loose pieces for the actors to play with.

Plate of bolognese / First date / raue center for the arts 2017

I fluffed cording string to a spaghetti-like mound. I painted the string and secured it to the plate. I then cut a sponge into ‘sausage’ bites, painted with wood stain and red acrylic paint, and glued on top of the string. Finally, I added crinkle paper to garnish as cheese. I left some noodles loose for actors to play with.

french fries / First date / raue center for the arts 2017

I cut and shaped Model Magic clay to various fry shapes. I painted a base coat, and then added various browning paint treatment and used fingers to detail the edges. I dressed them in a metal tin on a plate for serving, with most left loose for actors to play with.
